Description

Rocca trailers, dedicated to the transport of boats of up to 3 tons, are high-end products which have been known for their resistance and road qualities for many years. They enjoy the highest level of equipment, safety and comfort.

"From the slipway to the road in 5 minutes" concept

Rocca boat trailers are designed to facilitate and secure boat handling operations: the "QuickFlex" tie-down system is set up and removed in the blink of an eye, the traditional lighting board is replaced by sliding waterproof lights and the Goliath winch ensures a safe boat handling.

Wheeled frame fitted with an additional cross-member

ROCCA boat trailers are fitted with an additional cross-member the running gear. This cross-member reinforces the geometry of the trailer, and helps to better distribute launching rollers, when the boat design requires it.

A custom-made trailer

Rocca offers a choice of lengths per GVWR, at no extra cost and without manufacturing delay, providing a trailer whose length and load capacity exactly correspond to your boat. This simplifies and facilitates adjustments, especially when launching. Indeed, a trailer which is too long or too short moves the centre of gravity of the boat (which impacts safety on the road) and complicates launching (which too often requires wheel immersion and damages brakes).

Launching without immersion: durability and safety

Rocca has an optimized launching system. Large diameter rollers help to manage strakes and the cross-member of the tilting rear bogie limits the nose lift of the boat during launching. Launching, including on shallow slipways, is thus facilitated. The immersion of the wheels of a Rocca trailer is limited (below the hub), which increases the longevity of your trailer and improves safety on the road.

The Goliath safety pack protects you

The Goliath winch is fitted on Rocca trailers. Specifically designed for boat handling, it allows the sling to unwind freely; its brake system is automatically engaged when it is required by the boat. A th gear reduces forces on the handle by %, you simply have to change the handle from drive shaft. Rocca is fitted with the QuickFlex professional tie-down system (Attachments and tensioners). This very intuitive system is set up in no time. The powerful tensioning is performed in one click, thanks to the Goliath winch handle. The elastomeric slings with a metal core are not extensible. They immobilise the boat in all circumstances and improve road holding, especially when avoiding obstacles, or sudden braking. Please note that it is prohibited to use the winch or its support to tie down the boat. The tie-down system must absolutely be independent and compliant with the standard to meet road safety requirements. QuickFlex guarantees you compliance.

An efficient electric system

Indicating components fitted on trailers are important safety elements. Exposure of connectors to marine corrosion very quickly renders the electric system of trailers inoperative, especially the lighting board which is very exposed to repeated handling and sea water. Rocca replaces the rear lighting board with waterproof sliding lights. All the wiring harnesses are fitted with waterproof connectors. Rocca a trailer featuring the best technical solutions, designed for your comfort and safety.

Why a custom trailer?

The length of the trailer must suit the size of the boat:

For launching without immersion (brake safety and durability) and easier lowering of the boat even on a gentle slope, the boat must be placed as far forward as possible on the trailer so that all the rollers, especially those of the bogie, are uniformly in contact with the widest part of the hull and so that the latter is perfectly horizontal.
For example, moving back the stand by a metre towards the back of the trailer, when it is too big for the boat will limit the contact of the central bogie with the hull and/or will not make it possible to best adjust the side or keel rollers.
For perfect road holding and securing of the boat, its centre of gravity must be perfectly centred.

  • The part of the transom resting on the rollers must be positioned downstream the last roller between and
  • The winch support stand must be placed between and the small front joiner cross-member, and must be of suitable height.

Axle adjustment

The road holding and stability of the car + trailer set depend, among other things, on the perfect balance of the boat weight on the trailer running gear. This is why the axle position must be adjusted according to each boat. This mandatory service is performed by a professional or the trailer distributor, and cannot be further charged. Our trailers are designed to closely fit the boat length. The axle position is then naturally the best, however the intervention of a professional, even if it is simplified, is still required to finalise adjustment according to the boat.

Une remorque bien réglée exerce un juste effort sur l'attelage du véhicule et favorise tenue de route et qualité du freinage.

Launching system adjustment

Each boat has a specific construction. The hull, wetted area and engine vary from one boat to another, and have an impact on the launching quality. An easy launching obviously depends on the roller system, but also, for each boat, on several factors such as the centred position of the boat, the winch and winching line, the fact that the boat remains horizontal during the operation (if possible without immersion) and, finally, the position of the rollers according to the hull strakes.

Our trailers perfectly fit the boat for an optimum launching:
  • Multiple lengths per each GVW = trailer suitable for the boat (centred).
  • Variable winch stand heights = perfect puling line.
  • Tilting rear bogie system = helps to keep the boat horizontal (low nose lift when exiting water).
  • Roller supports in high strength pressed steel = supports the weight of the boat without incident over time.

A final adjustment of the position of some rollers in relation to the hull is still necessary and will be performed by an authorised professional.

Road safety, lighting, maintenance....

Each boater is responsible for their vehicle, but also for the safety of other users on the road and on the slipway, under the road safety provisions

They must ensure the regular maintenance of the brakes, wheels and indicating lights of their trailer, as well as the compliance of safety devices. Thanks to their design and equipment, our trailers help to ensure your safety both on the road and the slipway, in order to allow you to fully enjoy your leisure activities. How to configure a trailer
Define/ configurate

Defining your custom-made boat trailer

Defining the payload

The trailer payload must be superior to the sum of the cumulative weights of the boat and its engine, full fuel tank, water tank(s), deck fittings and other accessory equipment. The trailer model must be selected according to the required payload. The GVW will be the resulting payload plus the trailer unladen weight.

Defining the trailer length

The trailer length does not depend on the boat length but on its dimension, which is the dimension between the transom and the chain plate ring. The theoretical length thus obtained can be adjusted as required up to without impacting the compatibility of the trailer with the boat. It is possible for some brands to add a storage box to the winch support stand (finishing). In this case, the theoretical length of the trailer will be longer (see Table below). To determine the optimum length of your trailer, it is necessary to measure the length X of your boat and add a fixed dimension according to the Table below. It is a minimum theoretical length from which you can select one of our models. Each trailer GVW is provided in lengths (multiple of). It is possible that, in specific cases, the boat theoretical length is not available for the required payload. In this case, it is necessary to select the next higher GVW.

  • GVWR < 750Kg : LR mini = X + 85 cm (Tiller)
  • 750Kg < GVWR < 1300Kg : LR mini = X + 125 cm (stand without box) or + 150 cm (with box)
  • 1300Kg < GVWR < 2500Kg : LR mini = X + 125 cm (stand without box) or + 150 cm (with box)
  • 2500Kg < GVWR < 3500Kg : LR mini = X + 150 cm (stand without box) or + 175 cm (with box)

Recommendations:
The dimension X must be measured from the boat part resting on the rollers (some boats have a "chaise" - offset hull portion which does not rest on the trailer rollers). The theoretical length is provided for a trailer configuration with a winch support previously defined for the boat (according to the Table below) and whose bow stop, in raised position, is under the chain plate ring (at cm).

Legend:

  • LB = Boat length
  • X = Dimension between the transom (resting on the rollers) and the chain plate ring
  • LR = Trailer length

Defining the winch support

The only function of the winch stand is to support the winch and ensure an optimum pulling line which, associated with the launching system, will facilitate effortless boat handling. The bow stop helps to stop the boat when it is lifted, but is under no circumstances a tie-down point, nor a safety making it possible to stop the boat in the event of sudden braking or collision. A different tie-down compliant with the legislation must be used. It is important to get the best winching that the bow stop is positioned under the chain plate ring and that the winch is positioned slightly below the level of the chain plate ring so that the strap forms an upwards angle, or is at least horizontal when the boat is in contact with the bow stop. For semi-rigid hulls, the stand is thus most often positioned under the hull and not in front of the boat. Our winch supports come in several models and configurations to optimally fit all boat types. To find a suitable stand, several parameters must be taken into account:

  • The vertical distance between the chain plate ring and the joiner tube (trailer frame)
  • The type of hull (rigid or semi-rigid)
  • Eventually, in some cases, the distance between the handle axis and the hull/float

Each Nautilus, Rocca and Satellite trailer is fitted with a stand defined to fit, on average, the majority of hulls in view of the trailer dimension. However, this is sometimes not optimum. This is why we offer, at no extra cost and on request, to fit your trailer, when you buy it, with the stand of your choice. You just have to specify it when you order from your authorised dealer.
  • Micro Stand 40 >H< 60 cm
  • Mini Stand 60 >H< 75 cm
  • Average Stand High Stand 70 >H< 85cm
  • High Stand extension 80 >H< 95 cm
  • High Stand extension 95 >H< 110cm
  • Stand TS3000 H >110 cm

Standards and safety

To safely transport a boat, some essential rules need to be followed. A boat trailer is far more than a simple trailer. It must meet numerous requirements specific to marine application. The products of our Nautilus, Rocca and Satellite brands benefit from more than years of experience at your service.

European approvals

Each trailer must have a certificate of compliance to travel on European roads. This certificate required by the prefecture to register the trailer mentions its serial number, which will then be transferred on the log book. All our trailers of less than of payload benefit from European approval which guarantees their compliance with road use. The approval defines, for each trailer or trailer type, its construction compliance in accordance with current standards, but also the compliance of the main components such as hitches, wheeled and braking systems, indicating (lights), wheels and fenders, rear underrun protection, etc. Each trailer of a given brand is therefore compliant as long as it is built and maintained with the original components provided for by the approval. To this end, approved original components must absolutely be used to maintain the trailer. Otherwise, the trailer will no longer be compliant with road use or the manufacturer will no longer be held liable. The other safety elements are also governed by European Regulation protecting users. Standards define the design, manufacturing and use conditions which ensure the safety of individuals and the boat. European trailer manufacturers have a legal obligation to comply with these provisions, otherwise they can be held liable.

Winch: European standard EN13157 A1

The standard defines boat handling on a trailer as a lifting operation (lifting by changing horizontal and/or vertical level) and requires, in particular, a permanent safety brake (active in all circumstances when the boat applies tension on the strap), a strap or cable compliant with the Regulation, as well as that the protection of winch pinions and active elements. Our trailers are fitted with the Goliath winch, the only winch on the market providing a free unwinding of the strap (punctual brake neutralisation) and with an automatic safety rearmament device when loaded. This winch benefits, when required by the load, from a double speed to reduce both lifting and lowering forces for more comfort.

We guarantee the compliance of the winch and marking related to it.

Tie-down: Standard EN12195 1-5

Tie-down is mandatory.

  • It is the responsibility of the motorist to ensure its compliance, in accordance with road safety.
  • It is the responsibility of professionals to provide a solution suitable for the trailer.

The European standard defines the rules for calculating the tie-down compliance of a load on a wheeled vehicle. In principle, tie-down should allow the boat to remain connected to the trailer in all circumstances.

  • The tie-down type: a point cross tie-down to fully immobilise the boat (points for rigid boats of less than tonne and tonne for semi-rigid boats).
  • The tensile force: to eliminate clearances and the potential movement of the boat.
  • Non-elastic straps: to eliminate mass acceleration/increase factor (stress in case of accident).

Our Nautilus, Rocca and Satellite brands are exclusively pre-fitted* with the QuickFlex tie-down system for your safety.

The QuickFlex cross tie-down system is designed to tie down and fit any type of boat up to, in strict compliance with the Regulation. This very intuitive system is set up in the blink of an eye. The powerful tensioning is performed in one click, thanks to the Goliath TS winch handle. The elastomeric straps with a metal core are non extensible. They immobilise the boat in all circumstances, especially when avoiding obstacles or sudden braking, and improve road holding. QuickFlex guarantees the compliance of the boat tie-down with the standard and relieves the user of the standard validation responsibility. QuickFlex conveniently and durably replaces ratchet straps, which are ill-suited, fragile, extensible (up to 70 cm), and whose tensile force is limited, on top of all.
